About me

GEORGIA MILES
Hello! I am Georgia, the founder of The Sussex Flower School . My background is eclectic from a degree in Art History from Edinburgh University to the Higher Diploma in Floristry via massage and aromatherapy, teacher training, a lot of travel, living abroad in Japan, Hong Kong and other places, yoga, three (now grown up) children, a wife, a passion for growing flowers and a very openminded, expansive and optimistic attitude to life.
I ran my own successful wedding floristry business for several years before concentrating on teaching. I am a specialist in historical floral design (which now runs as an online course) and have also taught on the National Certificate Levels 2, 3 and 4- The Higher Diploma in Floristry – at Plumpton College in East Sussex.
I have taught at many different well known locations from RHS Wisley and KLC School of Interior Design to Charleston Farmhouse and many private homes…and I work closely with several Brighton based businesses too and am extending my teaching within the city of Brighton over the coming year as we are moving back there to live. The school is staying in Blackboys though.
My vision has always been simple- make floral design accessible to everybody whatever their skills, background or motivation. The Sussex Flower School was set up in 2010 to provide an alternative method of learning that could be more personal and targeted than many college programmes. Students can pick and choose courses to suit their needs and add to their skills as they progress. It is a very relaxed and flexible environment concentrating on high quality, caring tuition in small groups or individually.
If you have ANY queries just message me and I will get back to you personally. Nothing is too much trouble.
All images on the website are taken by Georgia in the school or her cutting garden.
The maximum number of students per class is normally four or five, however, we can cater for larger, bespoke groups if required.
The school has no minimum number policy, so courses go ahead even if they aren’t full.
The light and airy school is set in the rural Sussex village of Blackboys. There is a cutting garden at the school and Georgia has a dedicated cutting garden at her home where many of the flowers are grown for the courses.
Georgia is passionate about flowers and plants and wanted to create a space where people could learn in a relaxed environment as much or as little as they want. Her aim is for everybody to leave having achieved something new, brimming with enthusiasm, full of ideas and happiness…
Lunches are not provided, however…there is always fabulous homemade cake, coffee, Pukka herbal teas etc Please bring your own lunch- we will have a break.
