Georgia Miles is the founder of The Sussex Flower School. Her background is eclectic from a degree in Art History from Edinburgh University to the Higher Diploma in Floristry via massage and aromatherapy, teacher training, a lot of travel, yoga, three children and a passion for gardening.
She ran her own successful wedding floristry business for several years before concentrating on teaching. She is a specialist in historical floral design and has also taught on the National Certificate Levels 2, 3 and 4- The Higher Diploma in Floristry - at Plumpton College in East Sussex.
Her vision is simple- make floral design accessible to everybody whatever their skills, background or motivation. The Sussex Flower School was set up in 2010 to provide an alternative method of learning that could be more personal and targeted than many college programmes. Students can pick and choose courses to suit their needs and add to their skills as they progress. It is a very relaxed and flexible environment concentrating on high quality, caring tuition in small groups or individually.
The maximum number of students per class is ten, however, we can cater for larger, bespoke groups if required.
The school has no minimum number policy, so courses go ahead even if they aren't full.
The light and airy school is set in the rural Sussex village of Blackboys. There is a new cutting garden at the school and Georgia has a dedicated Cutting Garden at her home where many of the flowers are grown for the courses.
Georgia is passionate about flowers and plants and wanted to create a space where people could learn in a relaxed environment as much or as little as they want. Her aim is for everybody to leave having achieved something new, brimming with enthusiasm, full of ideas and happiness...
Lunches are no longer provided because of Covid 19, however...there is always fabulous homemade cake, coffee etc
There is a new cafe on site called The Cowshed where you can buy lunch or you can bring your own..we will have a break.
'Georgia's caring and enthusiastic teaching style nurtured my creative talents, the classes were well structured, lots of fun and I enjoyed every single one.'
'If you would like a good quality floristry course there are plenty to choose from but finding bespoke courses tailored exactly to your own needs can be challenging. Before setting up my own floristry business I was keen to learn some additional key skills. I found various colleges and floristry schools in London and the South East which covered all these specific skills, but over a variety of different courses and a great number of months.Instead I wanted to create my own bespoke condensed course taught by a highly skilled tutor. After some research I was finally introduced to Georgia. Georgia quickly understood my requirements and was quick to adapt. During our lessons she was calm, kind, enthusiastic and incredibly encouraging. Since I have had the privilege of working with Georgia on a variety of events and when the time comes for us to recruit and train new colleagues I hope that Georgia will very much be a part of that process. I trust her judgement implicitly'
